Episode 019 of the Shine Springs Farm Shinecast features an interview with Corie Pierce, co-owner of Bread & Butter Farm near Burlington, Vermont.
Bread & Butter Farm is a small-but-diversified sustainable farm in Shelburne, Vermont–just outside of Burlington. Bread & Butter Farms is co-owned, co-farmed by Corie Pierce and Adam Wilson. They have a small dairy operation, raise grass-fed beef, pastured pork, and grow a variety of cold-hardy greens and other vegetables.
In addition to the traditional agriculture operations, Bread & Butter Farm has an on-farm store where patrons can purchase artisan German-style breads, baked on the farm from whole grains grown and milled on the farm.
If you’re in the Burlington area during late Spring and Summer, be sure to stop by for the Friday Burger Night (or just pay a visit–they welcome farm visitors any time). Burger Nights at Bread & Butter Farm features grassfed beef hamburgers from cattle raised on the farm (along with veggie burgers for vegans and vegetarians). You’ll also enjoy a time of community fellowship and great music.
Corie’s partner, Chris Dornan, is a folk singer/songwriter and he leads an on-farm music program called Music for Sprouts for children 0-3.
I had the great fortune to visit Bread & Butter Farm in June 2012 when I was in Burlington for the University of Vermont’s Breakthrough Leaders Program in Sustainable Food Systems. I got to meet Corie & Chris during that visit and am super excited to have Corie on the Shine Springs Farm Shinecast.
