Social Media for Nonprofits

This past weekend (March 18, 2012), I spoke at the Alabama Water Rally on the topic of social media for nonprofits. My focus was on helping groups concerned with environmental conservation and protection who had some basic presence in social media but weren't really sure how to use social media most effectively to build support for their cause. The setting was peaceful Camp Beckwith on Weeks … [Read more...]

Social Media for Nonprofits: Resources You Can Use

This post is a list of resources that nonprofit leaders might find helpful in launching or improving a social media campaign or general communications initiative. This weekend, I'll be giving a presentation on social media for nonprofits at the Alabama Rivers Alliance Water Rally & Watershed Leadership Conference. We'll also be … [Read more...]

It's amazing and inspirational, so see … [Read more...]

Last Friday I drove down to Tuscaloosa for a concert by My Morning Jacket, Neko Case and Phosphorescent. Proceeds from the show went to the United Way Tuscaloosa tornado relief fund. Before the show, the musicians toured the path of the tornado and saw the destruction first hand. Neko Case posted this photo via Twitter. It's a scrap of writing she found amidst the … [Read more...]

Warby Parker: Doing Well By Doing Good

Benjamin Franklin is know for his philosophy of "doing well by doing good." Ben also invented bifocals (and didn't pursue a patent). I recently ran across this brief news story in the Financial Times about a new company, Warby Parker, which seems to have Ben Franklin's philosophy as part of its core mission. Warby Parker sells affordable, vintage-inspired eyewear. Nothing particularly new there. … [Read more...]
